Rice sticks, or Shavige, is typically served with many side dishes. Chutney, Kai Halu, and Korma are some of the popular ones. In our family, we make two kinds of sweet powders, called sooslu, that we mix with the Shavige with ghee. Here are both recipes. Makes about 6 servings.
Yellu (Sesame) Sooslu
Lightly roast 1 cup of white sesame seeds until they turn golden brown. After they cool, add 1/2 cup of brown sugar or Jaggery and powder to a coarse powder.
Khus Khus Sooslu
Lightly roast 1 cup of khus khus until they turn golden brown. After they cool, add 1/2 cup of brown sugar or Jaggery and powder to a coarse powder.
