Heat about half the ghee in a thick bottomed pan. Add the besan and fry till besan becomes a golden brown. This can also be done in the microwave.
If microwave is used to fry the besan, heat it for 2 minutes and keep stirring before putting it back in again every time till besan becomes golden brown.
Let the besan cool and then add sugar and cardamom powder. Form into laddus (golf ball size) while the mix is still hot.
