Huggi

This is a rice dish that is traditionally prepared during Pongal or Sankranthi. It is similar to Pongal, but with a slight difference in preparation and taste.

Ingredients

  • Rice : 1 cup

  • Moong Dal : 1/2 cup

  • Jeera Seeds : 1 teaspoon

  • Black Pepper (Coarsely ground) : 1 teaspoon

  • Curry Leaves : 10 – 12 leaves

  • Turmeric : 1 pinch

  • Salt : to taste

  • Ghee : 2 tablespoons

Directions

  • Fry the moong dal in a little bit of ghee for a couple of minutes to slightly warm the dal. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir to combine.
  • Transfer to a pressure cooker and cook with 3 1/2 cups of water. If you want the dish to be a little softer, add some more water and stir for a couple more minutes.
  • Top with ghee and serve immediately.
